I was pleased to take part in the ‘Interim’ exhibition in Paper Gallery, Manchester in the Autumn of last year. Alongside 12 other PhD students we exhibited our works in progress, as we all moved into the second year of our studies.
The work I submitted was a large scale drawing of the varying terrain of my research area. I traced the links between different thinkers and my own thoughts on digital literature and future technologies. The arduous task of realising all of this in pen and ink allowed me to quite literally draw new connections between the concepts. As the map grew I was able to step back and see how in some parts themes emerged that I had thought a small part of my research before. By exhibiting the work I was able to draw out more connections from those viewing the piece. This helps to me gain more insight into what others see as a ‘narrative,’ ‘digital book’ or ‘future technology.’
